The new manufacturing plant for Avio USA in Hurt, Virginia, will support tactical missile programs under Lockheed Martin and Raytheon.

Additionally, Genentech and Avio USA broke ground on separate projects this week including a device fill-finish expansion and a solid rocket motor factory.

Avio USA's first U.S. manufacturing facility is slated for 2029 production, with capacity to turn out thousands of solid rocket motors each year.

"We are weighing the incentive packages offered by the individual states," retired U.S. Navy Vice Adm. James Syring, CEO of Avio USA, told Defense News.

The company has won a $26m deal from Raytheon to push on with engineering work to become a supplier of the Mk 104 dual-thrust rocket motor.
